That is a wonderful lesson Jer. In the past, when facilitiate learning using using images in healthcare and human resources, authencity may be even more important than diversity, becuause it is about integrity. We should aspire, but also realize where we are.

learning requires openness and reflection about who and how we are teaching. we want to reach everyone. if we don't reach EVERYONE, we are teaching

Compliance is FORCE. when humans are forced to do something, we might be compliant until the FORCE is removed. then we go back to do what we did before. Competence is really the beginning of sustainable change

"agitiate" versus "raise awareness"

If we replaced the words "diversity equity and inclusion" with "caring fairness and belonging" how might we change views? Would WE see our role in getting to that DREAM differently? Just like images, language is important. We all want to be cared for, treated fairly and belong. We should all be motivated for this reason to show caring, fairness and belonging to others.

I love that we are having this conversation. The Bible tells us we will be known by our love. There is a lot being shared nowadays but not all of it is being shared in love…These conversations are difficult and uncomfortable but they need to continue.
Dr. Richard Ray_BUS_563
01:02:12

Yes, we resort to specific terms that encourage inclusion because the majority culture gets swept away. It takes effort to notice who is being left out.

I think we are missing the concept THE "Fears" here. Fear of lost of power, fear of being ignorant/incompetent, Fear of unknown, Fear of being wrong.
